Every spring, Georgetown Public Policy Review (GPPR) publishes the Spring Edition, an academic journal containing a selection of peer-reviewed articles that present new, innovative, and quality research. The 2019-2020 Spring Edition theme, Power in the 21st Century, reflects current discourse around the shifting sources, uses, and implications of power dynamics throughout the world.

The digital age has introduced new methods of communicating with constituencies and influencing corporations and governments. The advent of the internet has not only elevated voices that were previously unheard, but also bolstered traditionally powerful institutions. Amid the confluence of new opportunities and lingering challenges, political, social, and economic power remains central to determining who possesses influence and what policies leaders enact. The 2019-2020 theme, Power in the 21st Century, encouraged scholars and policy practitioners to consider who wields political power in the 21st century and the challenges and opportunities that new tools present. GPPR selected articles presenting fresh insights into the policy implications of shifting power dynamics in the following areas:

  • Historical norms and institutions
  • Technology and social media
  • Political and social movements
  • Digitization and data
